
Two individuals have been charged in connection with a pair of vehicular hijackings that occurred in Chicago, according to a recent release from the Chicago Police Department. Michale Johnson, 20, residing in the 5300 block of S. Princeton Ave., faces two felony counts of aggravated vehicular hijacking using a firearm and a misdemeanor count related to criminal trespass to a vehicle. His alleged accomplice, Allen Thomas, 23, from the 11300 block of S. Forrestville Ave., has been charged with one felony count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, one count of armed robbery, and a count for the unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
The arrests of Johnson and Thomas transpired on October 28, following an investigation into incidences which the Chicago Police described as a vehicle and personal belongings being taken at gunpoint from a 46-year-old woman on October 25 around 11:57 p.m. in the 10600 block of S. Halsted St., and another aggravated hijacking involving a 28-year-old male on October 20 in the 8600 block of S. Halsted St.. Johnson is charged in both cases while Thomas's charges are connected to the first incident as described by Chicago Police Department's news release.
The Chicago Police Department has also issued warrants for both Johnson and Thomas, with the pair having a detention hearing scheduled for October 30, 2024, at the court located at 2600 S. California. Details of the crimes uncover a pattern of armed threats and, theft, which were swiftly acted upon by law enforcement leading to the subsequent charges.
As law enforcement continues their investigations, the Chicago community has been alerted to this recent spike in vehicular-related crimes, with assurances that the necessary steps are being taken to apprehend those involved and prevent future incidents. The department has not shared additional information at this moment.
