Heads up, city travelers: starting next week, there's a detour you'll need to note if you're hitting the roads at night. As reported by MoDOT, they are shutting down the eastbound Interstate 44 ramp to northbound I-55 for some overdue maintenance come Monday and Tuesday—that's October 21 and 22, for those marking their calendars—and it’s only happening once the sun goes down and the night claims the sky.
So what does this mean for your nocturnal navigation? Here’s the deal—this closure is locking down all lanes on eastbound I-44 at the Layfayette exit (Exit 290B) and it's going to start at 9 p.m. stretching until 5 a.m. the next morning, the folks coming home late or the ones at the grind of the graveyard shift will need to plan ahead. Because you won’t be getting anywhere quickly on that stretch for two nights in a row, nope, not without taking the scenic route.
But don't fret just yet, MoDOT's got a detour mapped out. If you're traveling on this path, your best bet is to stick to southbound I-55 (Exit 290A), slide off at Arsenal (Exit 206C), make the acquaintance of the overpass, and then you're free to jump back onto northbound I-55 and resume your journey.
