A white vehicle, while traveling eastbound on 800 South, struck the train in what was described as a T-bone collision, causing the train to derail. The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Officials from UTA stated that there were no injuries reported among the train's passengers.
The incident, which was first reported by UTA at 11:40 a.m., occurred on a section of track between 900 South and Fashion Place West. The aftermath of the crash saw a temporary suspension of service in this area, as crews endeavored to address the situation. Gavin Gustafson from UTA mentioned, "The train had only cosmetic damage," highlighting the minor nature of the train's condition, as obtained by KSLTV.
Following the derailment, the UTA reassured the public that the train would be able to continue its journey once re-railed.
