Chaos erupted in a Los Gatos shopping center on Monday morning when a vehicle careened into an empty storefront. The Santa Clara County Fire Department was on the scene at the intersection of Los Gatos Boulevard and Los Gatos Almaden Road shortly after the crash was reported at 10:23 am. The Santa Clara County Fire Department's official Facebook page for the fire department detailed the incident, confirming that the solo driver managed to escape the vehicle unscathed without medical assistance.
According to the post made by the department, fire station personnel from Shannon quickly responded, finding that the vehicle had not only impacted but also knocked over one of the building's support posts. Truck 85 and USAR 85 firefighters arrived to stabilize the compromised structure. Truck 85 effectively supported the load previously resting upon the damaged pillar using light structural shoring.
Fortunately, nobody was inside the business during the accident, and there were no injuries. The building, however, was left with a damaged front wall, door, and shattered glass, necessitating that it remain closed until repairs can be made. The area was deemed safe enough to turn over to the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department, Los Gatos Building Officials, and the property’s owner for further management and investigation.
