Residents of the Village may notice cleaner streets and less piles of unruly leaves starting next Monday. According to the Village's Department of Public Works (DPW), their leaf collection service is set to begin the seasonal tidy-up on October 21, 2024. The process, not unfamiliar to the community, involves crews traversing neighborhood blocks with scheduled precision to ensure no golden-brown leaf is left behind. Homeowners can find their leaf collection day by checking the map provided on the DPW's website.
By introducing upgraded equipment last year, acquired to cut labor costs and increase service efficiency, the DPW promises a more streamlined experience. The new machinery requires only a single operator, a significant change from the team of workers that traditionally managed the hoses and vacuums. This upgrade not only saves time but also improves the Village's stormwater management, a critical aspect of urban infrastructure, especially important during the rainy season.
It's crucial, however, that residents do their part by raking leaves to the parkway. The leaves should be placed no more than 5 feet from the curb to meet the mechanical arms of the DPW's new system. This simple act of placing the leaves correctly ensures smooth and efficient collection, keeping the village's streets neat and navigable.
