Residents of Webber-Camden can breathe a sigh of relief as CenterPoint Energy has completed the installation of all gas mains in the area. According to a recent update, the neighborhood can expect to see service line upgrades commencing shortly, carrying the promise of an enhanced infrastructure.
The rhythm of life among these residential streets will soon march to the cadence of CenterPoint's crews, with approximately one block per week earmarked for work. The scope of work involves the replacement of the service line or its reconnection to the newly laid main, which varies according to the line’s age. Local sidewalks may see temporary upheaval as at least one panel is frequently removed to enable the laying of service lines from the sidewalk up to the residents’ homes.
Engagement between CenterPoint’s technicians and the community is key to the smooth progression of this endeavor. "We encourage customers to work with the crew on where they want the meter to go," says CenterPoint Energy, emphasizing consideration of safety limitations, such as maintaining a distance from windows, doors, and vents. Those with inside meters can anticipate a scheduled two- to three-hour visit, negotiated to fit within their daily commitments.
As meters are transitioned outdoors, residents can expect technicians to also relight any pilot lights—an essential step in ensuring the continued functioning of natural gas appliances once services are restored. Following the service line and meter work, CenterPoint reaffirms its commitment to restoring any areas impacted by the construction.
