A woman was wounded inside her apartment when a stray bullet from an attempted robbery a block away blasted through her wall in Chatham, according to Chicago police. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Monday night, involving a 34-year-old man who was accosted by three armed suspects while he waited at a bus stop in the 8200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue.
The suspects demanded his belongings, and as the man attempted to escape their clutches, the robbers fired shots, one of which inadvertently struck a 20-year-old woman in a nearby apartment located in the 8200 block of South Evans Avenue. In an account of the events, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the robbery victim was not hit. In contrast, the unintended victim, the woman, was promptly taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where police said she was in good condition.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting, and Area 2 detectives are in charge of the investigation. The ABC7 Chicago coverage notes that the bullet struck the woman in the shoulder, and no other injuries were reported from the chaotic scene.
