A gunfire erupted in unincorporated Wonder Lake on Thursday, leading to one man being seriously injured and the arrest of a woman. McHenry County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call at 11:05 a.m. about two gunshot victims,
Deputies arrived at the 8900 block of E Tryon Grove Road to find a male with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Nearby was Aneta Marsek, nursing non-life-threatening injuries. The injured man was airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford in critical condition, while Marsek was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, as detailed in a McHenry County Sheriff’s Office press release.
Upon completing the initial investigation, authorities charged Aneta Marsek, a 45-year-old Wonder Lake resident, with one count of attempted murder, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm – both Class X felonies –, one count of aggravated domestic battery, a Class 2 felony, and two counts of obstructing justice, Class 4 felonies. Emergency response units including the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, along with several other local fire departments and air medical services, responded to the traumatic scene.
As the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation into the incident, the community reels from the shock. These charges against Marsek are merely allegations, and as such she is presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
