Another attempted robbery in Worcester has been foiled, thanks to the vigilance of bystanders and the quick action of local law enforcement. On yesterday morning, a Worcester man targeted an older woman in a brazen attempted purse snatching on Main St, only to find himself in handcuffs shortly after.
According to a press release from the Worcester Police Department, at approximately 11:10 AM, a man approached the victim from behind, shoved her, and made several attempts to wrestle the purse away from her. The assailant persisted in his efforts to rob the woman, even after initial intervention by passersby who then chased him off, heading south on Main St.
Worcester Police officers dispatched to the scene were quickly provided a description of the perpetrator. In a matter of minutes, at around 11:20 AM near 660 Main St, an officer spotted 40-year-old Jake Cross, who fit the description of the suspect. Upon review of video evidence, Mr. Cross was confirmed as the attacker and subsequently placed under arrest.
Mr. Cross faces severe charges, including Aggravated Assault and Battery (Victim over 60 Years Old) and Unarmed Assault with Intent to Rob. His would-be victim, and the local community, are left shaken by the event, but reassured by the prompt response of both the Worcester citizens and their police force.
