In a grim escalation of a residential dispute, a Yacolt landlord, identified as Jeremie Singer, 50, stands accused of the attempted murder of his tenant. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were summoned to a property near NE Beaver Brook Road and Eagle View Road on Tuesday night after a 911 call placed by a victim's relative. The caller alleged that the tenant had been shot in the head "unprovoked" around 8:15 p.m., as detailed by KOIN.
The victim was subsequently rushed to the hospital by ambulance and, as of Wednesday afternoon, remained in serious but stable condition. Meanwhile, the suspected shooter faces ominous legal charges, including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and domestic violence, as per a statement released by officials and reported by OregonLive.
Further complicating the picture, detectives learned that the relationship between the victim and Singer, who is not just a landlord but also a housemate, had been fractious. According to KPTV, only days before the shooting, deputies had responded to the same address due to a dispute between the landlord and tenants. Both parties had reportedly made claims of past threats against each other.
It appears the victim had vacated the home temporarily in the days leading up to the incident. On returning Tuesday to collect belongings, he was allegedly shot by Singer through the front window of the residence with a 12-gauge shotgun, incurring wounds to the face and chest.
Singer is currently incarcerated at the Clark County Jail on the charge of first-degree attempted murder - domestic violence and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
