Yuma County drivers, expect some slowdowns if you're planning to head south through the San Luis I Land Port of Entry early tomorrow morning. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has laid out plans for significant lane reductions in a widely used stretch of Urtuzuastegui Street, according to the City of San Luis' official website.

A usually busy three-lane street will narrow to just one lane for southbound private vehicles tomorrow, October 2, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., between Archibald and Main Streets. The reduction, part of ongoing road improvements, could cause heavy traffic during the busy morning commute. It's recommended to start early or find alternate routes.

This temporary inconvenience is part of a larger $307.5 million modernization project funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Inflation Reduction Act. The project, which began last year, aims to improve the port for the many vehicles that pass through daily, as per the GSA.

The GSA is advising the public to be aware of upcoming changes, which affect both border crossers and Yuma County residents who use the San Luis I Land Port daily. This may be just the start of changes as the modernization project continues. Stay updated through local traffic advisories and flexible with travel plans. More updates are available on the City of San Luis' website.
