
A 16-year-old named Colin Brown has died after being shot on I-55. Brown was struck by what appeared to be a stray bullet while traveling in an SUV with a family member last Saturday night, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
The driver, who has been identified as the teenager's father, reported that shots were fired into his vehicle on the interstate close to Loughborough. Following the incident, he drove to 4th and Walnut where emergency responders were able to meet them, as stated in official communications from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
Evidence of the shooting was later found by the police in the southbound lanes of I-55 near Loughborough. In an outpouring of grief, and an act of compassion, Colin Brown's organs were donated to patients in need, indicating the kind of person Colin was, and the values his family holds dear. "Their steadfast commitment to serve those around them – should inspire us all," Mitch McCoy, Director of Public Affairs and Information for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department noted, highlighting the family's wish to continue serving the community even amid their loss.
Authorities have been actively working on the case and are following up on numerous tips received since Monday. A new video, which could potentially be related to the case has been obtained and is currently under review by detectives. Mitch McCoy emphasized, "We cannot stress how important it is for residents living in the area of I-55 and Loughborough to review their home security cameras – which may have captured the shooting," as per the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
