A memorial is growing in Ahwatukee for 15-year-old Jaylen Reeves, who was fatally stabbed on November 16. His mother, Rena Reeves, has shared the deep pain and emptiness her son's death has left in her life. The community continues to mourn his tragic loss. "We never planned holidays without Jaylen, so it doesn't seem to matter anymore," Rena told FOX 10 Phoenix. Commemorating his memory, family, and friends have been consistently gathering at the same spot near 40th Street and Chandler Boulevard.
The Phoenix Police have yet to make any arrests. Yet, the authorities have identified a teen who they say was involved in the altercation that led to Jaylen's death. However, this teen has not been named a suspect. Rena Reeves shared with FOX 10 Phoenix her need to trust the police to thoroughly investigate the case. "The only thing we know is our son is dead. The person who did it has not been arrested and is claiming self-defense. Jaylen isn't here to defend himself, and we just want answers," she said.
Jaylen's parents, Rena and Brian Reeves, described the moment they learned of their son's stabbing as "absolute hell." In a grief-stricken interview with Arizona's Family, Rena recounted the pain: "I miss him a lot. I need him. I need him. My heart hurts." A local attorney representing the teen involved in the case told Arizona's Family that they had submitted a statement to the police, and conducted their investigation.
