An Akron teenager is facing charges after police accused him of using a firearm to rob a 13-year-old boy on his way home from school. This incident happened in the 600 block of Elma Street shortly before 4 p.m. on Friday, with authorities detailing the day's events.

The victim, who has not been identified due to his age, reportedly said that the suspect, a 17-year-old acquaintance, had approached him with a gun and demanded his phone and "other property," according to Cleveland.com. The 13-year-old complied, and the teen suspect fled the scene.

Luck would run out for the suspect when officers located him as a passenger in a black Kia on East Tallmadge Avenue after the robbery. Upon a traffic stop, the officers conducted a search and found a handgun with two extended magazines, as well as some of the 13-year-old's belongings, FOX8 reports.

Authorities took the 17-year-old into custody without incident. He is currently charged with aggravated robbery and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, but because of his age, his identity has remained confidential, Cleveland19 shared. Akron Police have yet to release any further details on what led up to the incident or the connection between the suspect and the 13-year-old victim.
