
A pair of alleged robbers are recovering in a Memphis hospital following a robbery gone awry earlier yesterday. After a victim turned the tables on his assailants, leaving one of them in critical condition and the other injured, this incident raises fresh concerns about the dire straits of lawlessness in the area, according to the Action News 5.
MPD officers were summoned to the scene behind the Classic Inn on American Way, where they discovered a man who had multiple gunshot wounds and a woman with a gunshot wound to her upper arm, Local Memphis reports.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the injured individuals were not innocent bystanders but perpetrators of a failed robbery attempt, the aftermath of a surprise defense by the intended victim a man came forward on nearby Fairbrook Avenue, identifying himself as the one responsible for the retaliatory shooting even as he claimed to be the victim of the initial crime, according to information obtained by Action News 5. The MPD confirms that all three individuals involved have been detained, and the male victim relayed that he was lured behind the hotel by the female suspect under false pretenses before being held at gunpoint along with a male accomplice; the victim seized the opportunity to disarm the female assailant and defend himself after a distraction arose.
Both alleged robbers were subsequently transported to Regional One in critical condition, FOX13 Memphis confirmed. In the light of the incident, community members echoed the need for decisive action against the backdrop of Memphis's continuing struggle with crime, as personified by local resident Jerie Jones who, lamenting the city's predicament, told FOX13 Memphis, “We have so much crime, and it's so devastating that things are still happening” and called for greater unity with the words “Unity is what we are missing in unity.”
