Arlington residents, prepare to modify your Thanksgiving week plans as city offices and facilities take a brief respite to honor the holiday. Announced via the City of Arlington's official notification, the closures encompass not only Thanksgiving day, Nov. 28, but also the following Friday.
For those who are accustomed to Thursday garbage and recycling pick-ups, you'll need to adjust your schedules. The city has decided to push to delay this service by one day, making Friday the new collection day for Thursday's trash, and likewise, Saturday for Friday's waste. Routine services are slated to promptly resume on Monday, Dec. 2.
The breadth of the closures is comprehensive. On Thanksgiving Day, the shuttering will include Arlington City Hall, the Municipal Court, and all branches of the public library, among others. Critical services such as the Handitran office and transportation services will also be inactive. However, the hiatus is short-lived as Arlington On-Demand transportation and all golf courses return to operation on Friday, albeit with weekend rates.
Recreation spots have also tailored their schedules to the holiday timeline. Athletic centers and recreation hubs will operate with limited hours on Friday, Nov. 29. Places like Elzie Odom Athletic Center will open doors from 8 a.m. to noon, whereas The Beacon Recreation Center will welcome patrons from noon to 4 p.m., publicly communicated schedule details explain.
