It's not every day you see a city mayor trade in their suit for sneakers, but that's exactly what Mayor Jim Ross of Arlington did on the latest episode of Explore Arlington. The local show, which prides itself on uncovering the gems of "The American Dream City," recently featured Ross hitting the court with the UT Arlington Lady Mavs basketball team.
The Lady Mavs, under the leadership of head coach Shereka Wright, have been turning heads with their impressive play. Last season, they boasted a not-too-shabby 17-16 overall record and made it to the semifinals of the WAC Tournament, with Wright at the helm. In just her second season, Wright steered the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance and rightfully snagged the Sun Belt Coach of the Year title. Fast forward to now, and it's clear Wright and her squad aren't resting on their laurels - entering what could be a defining fifth season in 2024-25, according to the City of Arlington.
Arlington's College Park Center serves as the proud home court for the Lady Mavs, who aim to capitalize on the momentum built over the past seasons. For those interested in catching a game and maybe even seeing if Mayor Ross has upped his game too, the 2024-25 schedule and ticket information are conveniently a click away.
