A brush fire in Tempe that began on Sunday is currently under investigation for arson. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the fire started near McClintock Drive around 2:40 p.m., and authorities responded to reports of a shirtless man fleeing the scene.

Further details reported by AZFamily confirm the location on the north side of Tempe Town Lake, just east of the east dam. Despite the rapid response of Tempe Fire Department crews, who managed to contain the blaze quickly, some palm trees and wildlife were not prevented from being destroyed.

"Tempe Police and Fire responded to a brush fire. Information was provided that a shirtless man was seen running away from the fire. The fire will be investigated as an arson," said the police department, as per FOX 10 Phoenix. The unidentified man has yet to be apprehended as the investigation continues into the suspect's motivations and whereabouts.

While no injuries were reported, AZFamily stated that drivers commuting on Loop 202 near McClintock Road on Monday morning may notice a light haze and smell of smoke. Anyone with information on the fire is encouraged to contact the Tempe Police Department.
