In observance of Veterans Day, Athens-Clarke County will experience some adjustments to schedules and services on Monday. A variety of departments, including Animal Services, Leisure Services, Solid Waste, and Transit, amongst others, have specified changes that will affect the routine of the community.
Animal Services has announced, via the ACCGov website, that its shelter will not open on the holiday, and non-emergency service calls will not be answered until the following day. However, emergency services will remain available for pressing matters such as animal bites or animals trapped inside residential spaces, accessible via calling 911.
The majority of Leisure Services facilities will close their doors on Monday as well, with parks operating under reduced hours between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. As for Sandy Creek Park, a regular closure on all Mondays, it will stick to its usual schedule and stay shut. According to the same source, regular opening times are set to resume the day after Veterans Day for all closed facilities.
Solid Waste has clearly stated that residential garbage and recycling pick-up will experience a one-day delay. While closed on Monday, offices will reopen on Tuesday, following which the adjusted waste collection schedule will proceed throughout the week. Downtown district services, however, are expected to operate without change, maintaining their regular schedule. Similarly, the CHaRM facility, normally shut on Mondays, will continue its regular hours starting Tuesday.
Public transportation will see a suspension of the bus service on the holiday, with the Transit Department closing its offices too. Normal service will resume on Tuesday, and community members are encouraged to reach out to the department for further information or assistance.
Across the county, general administrative offices and facilities such as City Hall and various government buildings will also observe the holiday, resuming their business and services on Tuesday, honoring those who have served while also ensuring the community's essential services remain available during this federal holiday.
