A routine traffic stop for a window tint violation on Defoor Avenue in northwest Atlanta quickly escalated into a substantial drug bust, landing two men behind bars on multiple charges.
On November 16, as per information from WSB-TV, officers from the Atlanta Police Department (APD) pulled over a vehicle driven by Eric Bell, along with passenger Nicholas Thompson, after noting the heavily tinted windows. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers detected a strong smell of marijuana, prompting them to detain the occupants for a further search.
The search of the vehicle unearthed more than just a small amount of contraband. APD officials found 1,490 grams of marijuana in various forms of packaging, 17 digital scales suggestive of distribution activity, two firearms including a Glock 33 and a Glock 19X equipped with a 30-round extended magazine, and $2,573 in cash. This discovery led to the immediate arrest of Bell and Thompson, as detailed in a FOX 5 Atlanta report.
Bell is now facing charges including a seatbelt violation in addition to possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. His counterpart, Thompson, has been charged with the initial window tint violation, the same drug distribution and firearm possession charges. Thompson and Bell were subsequently booked into Fulton County Jail. "It's a lot," was overheard by an officer remarking on the bodycam footage, about the items seized from the vehicle.
FOX 5 Atlanta reports that what began as a minor window tint issue has led to serious consequences. As the legal process continues, those involved will face the charges against them.
