Attorney General Gentner Drummond has introduced the Attorney General’s Outstanding Officer of the Year Award to recognize Oklahoma law enforcement. In its first year, four officers have been named regional Officer of the Year. One of them will be selected as the statewide Officer of the Year for 2024 next month, according to the Oklahoma Attorney General.
The initiative, launched in May, received 44 nominations. A panel of judges from various levels of the criminal justice system, including city, county, tribal, and state backgrounds, was tasked with selecting the winners. The judges were responsible for fairly evaluating the nominees' commitment, as reported by the Oklahoma Attorney General.
Attorney General Drummond commended the four officers, saying, "These four individuals reflect the courage, selflessness and unwavering commitment that is representative of Oklahoma’s law enforcement community." The award aims to recognize their dedication and improve the public’s view of law enforcement’s service and sacrifice, as stated by the Oklahoma Attorney General.
While the statewide winner has not yet been announced, the regional recipients have been recognized for their dedication to public safety. "I congratulate the regional winners for their extraordinary work and thank them for their steadfast dedication to public safety," said Drummond. The final announcement is still awaited, but the regional winners represent the important work done by law enforcement officers daily, as mentioned by the Oklahoma Attorney General.
