The manhunt for an escaped inmate continues today as law enforcement officials scramble to locate 23-year-old Tony Jameson Sweeton, who fled from a prisoner transport vehicle in Franklin County. According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Sweeton managed to escape on Wednesday at approximately 8:27 p.m., near the intersection of Highway 127 and Wattendorf Highway, at the border between Franklin County and Coffee County. WSMV reports that Sweeton is thought to be hiding in a wooded area west of where he escaped.
Sweeton, an inmate from Coffee County, escaped while heading to a court appearance in Franklin County. Law enforcement agencies like the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tullahoma Police, and Arnold Air Force Base Police are searching for him. Sweeton is 5'7", 155 pounds, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and tattoos on his neck. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black-and-white striped pants. Residents near Winchester Highway or Millers Crossroads are asked to stay alert and report any sightings, as reported by FOX 17.
The escapee, Tony Sweeton, faces multiple charges including aggravated assault, theft, and resisting arrest. Sheriffs from Franklin and Coffee counties are working together on the case.
