
A somber situation unfolded in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, where a pregnant woman was shot and killed while her baby was delivered and remains in critical condition. As reported by NBC Philadelphia, the incident occurred last Thursday evening at an apartment building along the 200 block of North Wycombe Avenue.
The Lansdowne Police Department received a call around 7:30 p.m. about the shooting, and was assisted by neighboring law enforcement in responding to the scene. Upon their arrival, officers found the pregnant woman, approximately eight months into her pregnancy, with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FOX 29 News. The woman was then transported to a hospital in attempts to save her unborn child.
Police efforts resulted in the child being delivered, though the newborn's condition was critical, as confirmed by Lansdowne Police Chief Ken Rutherford. The individual who reported the incident was detained for questioning, and details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. The Delaware County District Attorney's Office Criminal Investigation Division is treating the case as a homicide.
