Barrow County residents planning to utilize county services should mark their calendars, as the Thanksgiving holiday will bring a pause to normal operations across several departments. According to an official announcement on the Barrow County website, the administrative offices, courts, senior center, and animal shelter are scheduled to close on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 29.
In order to thoroughly enjoy the holiday festivities, county employees and officials will step away from their desks and services. The extended break also impacts the Barrow County Senior Citizen’s Center, which will shut down a day earlier, on Wednesday, Nov. 27, and will resume its regular business hours starting Monday, Dec. 2. While Victor Lord Park's buildings and athletic fields will be inaccessible during this time, residents can still expect to freely roam the park itself and use facilities such as the batting cages, tennis, and pickleball courts.
For any water-related emergencies that might erupt during this festive time, the Barrow County Water office will understandably be closed; however, they have provided assurance that essential staff will remain on duty. Any reports of water emergencies can be directed to a dedicated hotline at (770) 307-3014, which will connect callers with the necessary on-call personnel, as cited by the Barrow County announcement.
Public safety will not experience a halt during the holiday. Essential public safety personnel are set to remain on duty, ensuring that county residents can safely gather and give thanks without concern over their well-being.
