The Bay Area braces for chilly conditions as a weak low-pressure system leaves, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco to call attention to the colder temperatures and remaining dry pattern. According to the forecast, we should expect cooler air and clearing skies following the last lingering showers near the Big Sur coastline.
Dipping temperatures will take center stage, "Overnight lows will hover in the low to mid 30s for much of the interior beginning Wednesday night through Saturday morning," the National Weather Service stated. While those early morning hours might coax out the heavier coats and layers, the frost advisory doesn't come as a surprise, issued for the interior regions, including parts of the North Bay, East Bay, South Bay, and Central Coast starting at 10 PM tonight through 9 AM Thursday.
As the NWS rolls out the long-term outlook, freezing temperatures will persist into the weekend. However, don't despair if you do not like the cold. Slightly warmer mornings are on the horizon, with only the coldest locations dropping into the upper 30s by next week. During the day, expect a modest uptick in temperatures compared to the lows, with highs lingering in the low to mid-60s across the interior and upper 50s to low 60s along the coast, as delineated by the NWS forecast.
Regarding air travel, the aviation outlook remains mostly smooth, with the National Weather Service forecasting "widespread VFR this afternoon and into the night." This seems to be the calm after the brief flurry of precipitation off the Monterey coast, translating into good news for those hitting the skies. Nonetheless, a Beach Hazards Statement remains in effect through Thursday evening, signaling that all might not be calm on the seas as a long period of southerly swell is expected to roll in, persisting into Thursday night.
