Baseline Road in Buckeye was the scene of an unusual chase and subsequent arrest Wednesday morning. According to Buckeye Police, a city truck was stolen near Baseline Rd and Central Blvd. The theft occurred as city workers were present at a job site. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Jesse Wells, reportedly commandeered the vehicle and crashed it into another unoccupied vehicle just a block away. Attempts by Wells to escape on foot were thwarted by a city employee, who detained him until law enforcement arrived on the scene.
During his arrest, Wells assaulted two Buckeye police officers, causing both minor injuries. "Both officers suffered minor injuries. One of them had to be transported to the hospital for treatment," the police department stated. Despite these confrontations, the suspect was taken into custody. The incident necessitated the closure of a portion of Baseline Rd while the situation was brought under the control and an investigation commenced.
Buckeye police have confirmed in their report that Wells has been booked into jail on multiple felony charges. The charges include vehicle theft and aggravated assault on the law enforcement officials trying to restrain him.
Jesse Wells now faces serious legal repercussions for his actions. As an official statement from the Buckeye police confirmed, "The suspect, 39-year-old Jesse Wells, has been booked into jail on multiple felony charges including vehicle theft and aggravated assault." The conditions of the officers injured during the arrest were not specified further, although initial reports suggest they were not life-threatening.
