A peaceful West Valley neighborhood was shaken by a double shooting, with a young woman seriously injured and a man with life-threatening wounds, Buckeye Police Department affirmed. On Nov 19, around 10:45 a.m., the incident unfolded at a home by the crossing of McDowell Road and Sienna Hills Parkway, leaving the community grappling to comprehend the sudden violence in their midst.
The police identified the individuals involved as a former couple, indicating that the confrontational implosion of their past affair may be at the core of this tragedy. "This was an ex-boyfriend/ex-girlfriend relationship," Carissa Planalp with Buckeye Police detailed in a statement where the man, after shooting the woman, seemingly turned the gun on himself, according to FOX 10 Phoenix.
Both victims were in their early 20s. The woman, found with multiple gunshot wounds to her back at the doorway of the home, provided officers with a statement en route to the hospital. Her ex-partner was found on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. Arriving officers initiated life-saving measures before both were hospitalized.
Local residents experienced a rude awakening to the sounds of emergency vehicles that morning, shattering the silence they were accustomed to. "It's very shocking when you hear a bunch of fire trucks, police cars literally storm down the road. You never see that happen," Brent Ruizz, a neighbor, told FOX 10 Phoenix, hinting at the general disbelief echoing through the community.
The Buckeye Police ensured the public that no further suspects were being sought and that the situation posed no additional threat. The woman's serious injuries combined with no danger to the community has made it clear that the incident was contained. The ongoing investigation has indicated it as a case of domestic violence, 12News reports.
