An employee at Cedar Springs Public Schools named Mark Labelle is facing serious legal repercussions following his arraignment on child pornography charges. As WOOD TV reports, Labelle was charged with aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material and using a computer to commit a crime. The charges came after a meticulous investigation that began when Labelle’s wife discovered questionable material on his cellphone and alerted the authorities on Aug. 24.
Despite the school’s distancing of Labelle from student engagement, saying in a letter to families that he "did not interact directly with students," the gravity of the charges casts a long shadow, one that stretches far beyond the immediacy of his former school district job, as per WOOD TV. Labelle is facing up to 10 years in prison for each felony charge, as reported by FOX 17. After being put on administrative leave since the district learned of the investigation on Aug. 26, Labelle was arrested. "The risk factors include that these two charges are most serious felony charges," while considering his bond, the judge emphasized allegations involving images of children. Over 100 images of child sexually abusive material were discovered on Labelle's laptop, some recognized by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as known child pornography.
