Chicago Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force recently apprehended a man connected to a shooting earlier this month. James Harris, 44, from the 3100 block of W. Marquette in Chicago, was arrested on November 19, 2024, according to a press release by the Chicago Police Department. He is facing serious felony charges, including one count of aggravated battery with a firearm, and another count of being an armed habitual criminal.
The crime took place in Chicago's 8th District, where the 45-year-old victim was shot on November 3, 2024. Harris, the alleged perpetrator of the incident, was placed into custody two weeks later in the 3100 block of W. Mann Dr. His arrest was a collaborative effort by local law enforcement and federal officers. As confirmed by the Chicago Police Department, no additional information has been made available at this time.
Harris is set to appear for a detention hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on November 21, 2024. This court proceeding will determine whether he will be held in custody pending trial. The charges against Harris signal a concerning history of criminal behavior, particularly the designation as an "armed habitual criminal," which suggests prior convictions involving the use of weapons.
