The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is calling on the public for assistance following a fatal collision on Interstate 580 that claimed a motorcyclist's life last night. The incident, which occurred just west of Grant Line Road near the Stone Cut railroad overcrossing, involved a semi-truck and a motorcycle, leading to the rider sustaining fatal injuries. According to a social media post by CHP Dublin, the crash occurred around 7:41 PM.
Witnesses indicated that a gold SUV, potentially an older model Lexus, was seen weaving through traffic erratically before the crash. The vehicle, which continued to drive unsafely, veered from the #1 lane into the #2 lane, clipping a motorcyclist and splitting between the lanes. After being side-swiped by the SUV, the motorcyclist was thrown beneath a semi-truck passing in the #3 lane, which resulted in death. Fleeing the scene, the SUV and the semi-truck pulled a white shipping container with red lettering and briefly pulled over before leaving.
The CHP's Golden Gate Communication Center began receiving calls about the major collision at 7:42 PM. They are now asking for additional witnesses to contribute any information that could lead to identifying the two hit-and-run vehicles. Officer Tyler Hahn of the CHP Dublin Area is the point of contact for all media inquiries. Anyone with information about the crash or knowledge about the offending vehicles is encouraged to contact the Dublin CHP office at (925) 828-0466.
