Clermont County is set to light green as part of a nationwide initiative to support military veterans. Starting yesterday and for the remainder of November, several county buildings will be illuminated with green lighting in conjunction with Operation Green Light for Veterans. This move aligns with the nationwide campaign led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, which aims to bring attention to the struggles of many veterans and the variety of resources at their disposal. The initiative coincides with the commemoration of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, according to a report from Clermont County's official website.
Among the buildings glowing green are the Heritage Building/Veterans’ Service Commission on South Riverside Drive and the Administration Building on East Main Street, along with the Court of Common Pleas, Public Defender’s Office, and Permit Central. Clermont County Commissioner David Painter said, "Many veterans are unaware of the benefits available to them," highlighting the program’s role in raising awareness about services provided to veterans throughout the United States and in Clermont County. The initiative, now in its third year, reflects an ongoing commitment to honoring the service and sacrifices of Armed Forces members.
As part of Operation Green Light's local outreach, residents and businesses in the area are encouraged to join the effort by illuminating their properties with green lights and sharing their participation on social media platforms using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight, as per the County's information campaign. Operation Green Light showcases community solidarity and serves a practical purpose by directing veterans and their families toward assistance programs they might benefit from.
Commissioner Bonnie Batchler described Operation Green Light as "a public display and subtle reminder of the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces." While Commissioner Claire Corcoran added, as per Clermont County, “Operation Green Light is a fitting opportunity for us to show our gratitude,” expressing pride in the tradition which pays homage to the individuals committed to national safety and freedom. The campaign invites the wider community to partake in a visual tribute to veterans, extending an accessible yet profound gesture of support for those who have served.
