As a warm front hovers and a low-pressure system prepares to invite colder winds, the National Weather Service in Cleveland details a forecast that brings a mixed bag of meteorological events to Northeast Ohio. According to an area forecast discussion released early Sunday, after a spell of dry weather courtesy of departing high pressure, the region is expected to see increasing clouds, the possibility of light showers, and rising temperatures as Monday nears.

VFR conditions dominate the aviation outlook with a smooth sailing forecast for early week flyers. For those plying the marine routes, conditions appear favorable at the onset, but a Small Craft Advisory may soon be necessary as easterly flow ramps up ahead of the approaching front. Further inland, residents might find respite in the warmer temperatures forecasted to peak on Tuesday with numbers flirting with record highs.

While some might savor the thought of near-record temperatures, the meteorologists at NWS Cleveland remind us of the dry ground below our feet. The area has seen very dry airmass which means, that even without meeting the criteria for fire weather products, the potential for fire spread cannot be ignored due to prevailing dry conditions.

However, this spell of warmth and breezy conditions will be short-lived. A strong upper ridge keeping a cold front at bay will eventually relent, shifting the forecast towards a rainy phase late Tuesday through early Wednesday. Despite the rain, it won’t significantly assuage any long-term drought concerns, hinting at a couple of tenths of an inch at best. High pressure is set to return by week's end, proffering drier days ahead.
