In a coordinated effort to address violent crime, a 16-year-old male youth wanted for a Cleveland homicide was apprehended today by the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF). The teenager was sought in connection with a shooting that transpired at a gas station on the 3300 block of E. 93rd Street back in January. This fatal incident led to the untimely death of 32-year-old Tyrone Hipps Jr., who sustained a gunshot wound, ultimately resulting in his demise.
Local authorities, including the Cleveland Division of Police, responded to the crime scene on January 27. Subsequent investigation identified the 16-year-old male as a primary suspect, which led to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. According to a statement released by the U.S. Marshals Service, the fugitive was located and taken into custody at a residence in the 12900 block of Forest Ave in Cleveland, Ohio. A firearm was also seized from the premises during the operation.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott underscored the impact of the arrest, saying, “A violent fugitive and deadly firearm were taken out of the Cleveland community today. The US Marshal Service, partnered with strong local partners like the Cleveland Division of Police continues to make the northern district of Ohio a safer place to live.” The statement highlighted the immediate benefit of removing a potential threat from the streets and the ongoing commitment to public safety through interagency cooperation.
The NOVFTF's mission is bolstered by its composite nature, pulling resources and expertise from many local and state agencies. The task force brings together the Cleveland Police Department and U.S. Marshals Service, among others, forming a united front against violence threatening Ohio residents' peace and well-being. Individuals with any information concerning wanted fugitives are encouraged to contact the task force directly or submit a tip through their offerings, with the potential of reward money and the assurance of anonymity for tipsters.
The community is reminded to stay vigilant and to report any relevant information that could aid in bringing culprits to justice.
