A U.S. Coast Guard rescue recently took place some 28 miles west of Oceanside, California, where a critically ill crew member aboard the oil tanker Polaris Voyager required immediate emergency medical services. According to a release from the Coast Guard, the 39-year-old male was suspected of suffering from a stroke, prompting the immediate action.

Upon receiving a distress call around 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, authorities at the Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center quickly coordinated a response. Just 20 minutes later, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station San Diego was dispatched to the scene, reports stated.

After reaching the tanker, the Coast Guard aircrew hoisted the patient aboard the helicopter. Following the successful evacuation, the patient was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, arriving approximately two hours after the initial report of his condition. Standing by, medical personnel at the hospital took over his care as soon as he arrived.
