County Announces $11.5 Million Funding for Low-Income and Veterans' Housing ProjectsSource: County of San Diego

In a move to address the persistent issue of affordable housing, the County has announced the availability of $11.5 million in funding earmarked for low-income housing projects and services for homeless veterans. The initiative taps into various sources, including $6.5 million from the federal HOME Investment Partnerships program, a $3.5 million contribution from the County’s own Innovative Housing Trust Fund, and an additional $1.5 million from the state's Permanent Local Housing Allocation program.

Hard-pressed to cope with a regional housing shortage, the County is actively seeking proposals to bridge the gap between the housing haves and have-nots. Sharing his perspective as per the County of San Diego, David Estrella, director of Health and Human Services Agency’s Housing and Community Development Services, said, "Our region is behind in housing development to meet the needs of our community." Estrella emphasized the county's dedication to "constantly looking for construction, rehabilitation, and acquisition opportunities" that can foster the strength and stability of local families and veterans.

This NOFA announcement offers the added potential to secure Project-Based Vouchers through two key programs: the Housing Choice Voucher program and the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program. Developers with a qualified track record are invited to submit proposals that adhere to the requisite standards delineated in the solicitation documents.

Interested parties haven't wasted time. The clock is ticking, and the submission deadline is approaching, December 20 at 2 p.m. It's a tangible chance for developers to impact the local housing landscape, arguably transforming the contours of community life for those in greatest need.
