On Wednesday around 5 p.m., an altercation at a Marathon gas station on Highway 36 in Newton County escalated to gunfire. The incident involved a 22-year-old man, Joshua Williams, from Covington, who was arrested after a dispute turned violent when a firearm was introduced, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
The Newton County Sheriff's Office reported that Williams and a 25-year-old man got into a confrontation that escalated quickly. During the dispute, Williams pulled out a gun, leading to a physical altercation in which the gun went off. No injuries were reported from the incident, as detailed by FOX 5 Atlanta.
After the altercation, Williams fled but was quickly arrested. He faces charges of aggravated assault, battery, and possession of a firearm during a crime. He is currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center. The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the other person involved in the incident, and the investigation is ongoing, as reported by WSB-TV.
