As reported by the official Coweta County website, this recognition is the result of robust performance evaluations, certifications, and a comprehensive peer review process.
The newfound status enables the court to act as a beacon, guiding other Veterans Treatment Courts in Georgia by dispensing wisdom and strategies to enhance their operational efficacy, the Coweta Veterans Treatment Court is dedicated to aiding veterans grappling with addiction or mental health challenges through a meticulously crafted 18-month outpatient program focused on holistic recovery. "Participants attend evidence-based group counseling several times per week, along with individual counseling and random drug tests," Jennifer Barnett, the Accountability Court Manager for the Veterans Treatment Court, told the Coweta County news portal, the program integrates community support meetings, psycho-educational groups, and regular court check-ins.
Recidivism is a multifaceted battle, hence the court's approach is equally multifaceted; they concentrate on stabilizing mental health, deconstructing the origins of high-risk behaviors and scrutinizing ancestral trauma "We help stabilize mental health needs, work on underlying causes for risky behaviors and explore generational trauma or cycles of abuse," Barnett explained in her conversation with the Coweta County. Veterans also benefit from practical life skills training in areas such as job readiness, household management, and budgeting.
To support their mission, the Coweta Veterans Treatment Court collaborates with a network of local organizations, ranging from Goodwill to the VA Medical Center; these partnerships serve as the sinew that binds the body of the court's efforts, fortifying their strategy and augmenting their resource base. Barnett remarked on the additional vocational training opportunities, "We have also partnered with the Three Rivers Regional Commission, Workforce Development and West Georgia Technical College to offer Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training, Forklift operation certification, and a few others," indicating the court's commitment to veterans' long-term independence and well-being, as per Coweta County.
