Two Denver men face federal charges for their alleged involvement in a violent robbery of a postal worker last year. Marquis Taylor, 28, and Elijah Woods, 21, were indicted by a federal grand jury on counts of conspiracy, assault with intent to rob a U.S. Postal Carrier and mail theft, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
According to the indictment, in September of 2023, Taylor and Woods, alongside Dravell Emon Ross, 28, attacked a postal carrier during her lunch break near Utah Park in broad daylight. They intended to steal a universal mailbox key, which gives access to community mailboxes. Despite their attempt, the trio failed to acquire the key but succeeded in taking several mail items, packages, and a postal scanner, during the incident the postal worker sustained minor injuries.
Ross has already faced the consequences of his actions, on July 17, he was sentenced to a four-year term in federal prison for his involvement in the crime. Taylor was nabbed on November 13 and is currently being held until his trial. Conversely, Woods has been released on bond. The trial for both Taylor and Woods is expected to unfold in federal district court on March 31, 2025.
The United States Postal Inspection Service led the investigation that culminated in these charges, while Assistant United States Attorney Tim Neff is in charge, of the prosecution efforts. This case echoes a wider issue of attacks against postal workers, which has been on the rise in recent years, posing significant risks not just to the individuals attacked but to the integrity of the postal service.
