Earlier yesterday, a blaze swept through an apartment complex in DeKalb County, displacing dozens of residents. The fire, which erupted around 3 a.m. at the Hillcrest at Brookhaven apartments situated at 3446 Buford Highway NE, saw firefighters confronting smoke and flames upon arrival. According to FOX 5, DeKalb County’s own Kenneth McKinney reported that the fire notably impacted four apartment units within the building.
As crews worked to extinguish the fire, thirty residents were evacuated from the premises, ensuring no reported injuries amongst those who had called the building home. Atlanta News First noted that the Red Cross was on hand to assist and coordinate relief, offering shelter, food, and necessities to ten families affected by this unforeseen disaster. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, casting an uncertain shadow upon those affected as they grapple with the immediate loss of their residences.
