A serious injury collision occurred this morning in the neighborhood of Logan Heights, as reported by the San Diego Police Department's (SDPD) Watch Commander's Log. A 21-year-old male driver sustained major injuries after losing control of his vehicle and causing a series of crashes along 3100 Ocean View Blvd.
Driving a red 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, the driver reportedly swerved into the eastbound lanes, colliding with an unoccupied 2012 Toyota Tacoma parked on the curb. According to the San Diego Police Department's (SDPD) statement, the impact was such that it sent the Tacoma into another parked vehicle, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, before the Malibu careened into an SDG&E power box, exposing dangerous live wires. While transported to the hospital with an open fracture to his lower right leg, astonishingly, a passenger in the Malibu escaped unharmed.
The SDPD Traffic Division is handling the ongoing investigation of the crash that disrupted the early morning hush of Logan Heights. Officer D. O'Brien, the watch commander in charge, indicated that alcohol might have played a role in the incident. The driver, who has yet to be named, was taken to a local hospital, and the extent of their injuries has been detailed as being serious.
As the power box was knocked from its base, city utility workers arrived to secure the area around the exposed wires, ensuring the neighborhood's safety. Details leading up to the collision remain under scrutiny, with SDPD urging "anyone with information related to the above incident(s) is encouraged to call the listed Command handling the investigation or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477," illustrating the community's role in piecing together the events that unfolded. The aftermath of the collision raises concerns over driving under the influence and its continued threat to public safety.
