The Tulane Green Wave football team unleashed a display of dominance over the Temple Owls, sealing the deal with a lopsided 52-6 victory on Saturday. Tulane's winning formula was powered by the dynamic duo of Darian Mensah and Makhi Hughes, who proved to be unstoppable against the Owls, prompting Tulane to ascend to a 6-0 record in American Athletic Conference play, as reported by WGNO.
Mensah's arm was on full display as he confidently completed 14 of 21 passes, racking up 262 yards with two touchdowns, although he did toss an interception. Hughes, not to be outdone, clocked in 153 yards on the ground and added two more touchdowns to the scoreboard. This performance was enough to push Hughes past the 1,000-yard mark for the second consecutive season, a fact highlighted by FOX 8 Live. Tulane continued to aggressively dominate on the field, amassing a total of 327 yards over 52 carries shared among ten different runners.
With this recent rout, Tulane has now firmly planted itself among the ranks of the AP Top 25 as the No. 25 team in the country — a notable achievement for the program. The Green Wave's conquests on the gridiron have also earned them the distinction of holding the nation's longest conference winning streak with 16 consecutive victories, as indicated by WDSU.
The cherry on top of this athletic showcase was the celebration of Homecoming at Yulman Stadium, where Tulane alumni got to watch their team comprehensively dispatch the competition. While Temple managed to eke out a 75-yard touchdown run late in the game courtesy of Terrez Worthy, it was little more than a consolation prize in a game Tulane had firmly in hand. The Green Wave's defense was just as impressive as their offense, limiting Temple to a mere 158 total yards and frustrating their opponents' efforts on third down conversions most of the game, as per WDSU.
Looking forward, Tulane will take their show on the road to face Navy in what could prove to be a pivotal match in American Athletic Conference standings. Tulane, now standing with an 8-2 overall record, is setting their sights on potentially toppling conference-leading Army in the weeks to come, as per WDSU. With the team's current momentum and skilled personnel like Mensah and Hughes at the helm, the Green Wave is poised to potentially make some serious waves as the season starts to rapidly come to a close.
