Residents of Mankato, Minnesota, experienced an abrupt start to their week when a structure fire erupted on North Broad Street early Monday morning. The City of Mankato Government reported via social media that "on Monday, Nov. 4 around 8:30 a.m., Mankato Police and Fire were called to a structure fire at 722 N. Broad Street." Upon arrival, emergency crews were met with light smoke wafting through the premises.
The quick response of the fire department allowed them to source the fire hiding within the walls and smother it before it could claim more than it already had. Remarkably, as the crews worked to douse the flames, it was clear that the structure had already been deserted — everyone inside had evacuated to safety before the sirens could even converge on the scene.
Officials have now pegged damages at a steep $150,000, a number that speaks to the abrupt violence flames can impart on the mundane.
