The Falcon community in El Paso County has something to celebrate as the notorious Rex and Meridian Roads intersection has received a much-needed upgrade. El Paso County officials, alongside the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit, marked the completion of the Intersection Improvement Project, which aims to enhance road safety for all. Before the upgrade, the intersection was infamous for traffic snarls and vehicular mishaps.
Chief among the improvements, inaugurated in a recent ceremony, is the installation of a new traffic signal designed to better regulate the high volume of cars that traverse the intersection daily. According to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, the area was a hotspot for speeding and reckless driving citations, making the upgrade a crucial move for community safety.
El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal released a statement regarding the upgrade. "I am pleased to see this critical project completed," he said. In addition to the traffic signal, the project has widened the roads, which, running concurrently with improved infrastructures, aim to ease traffic flow and bolster safety. Sheriff Roybal further noted, "drivers, passengers, and pedestrians will be safer when commuting to work, school, or recreational activities."
El Paso County Commissioner and Board Chairman Carrie Geitner, who was present at the ceremony, echoed the sentiment of community improvement. Implementing these changes reflects El Paso County Public Works and the Board of County Commissioners' recognition of the need for superior roadways in less governed areas. The Commissioner's presence and that of the construction workers and deputies involved highlighted the collective effort that was key to the project's success.
