Yesterday morning, a 65-year-old man found himself the victim of a hold-up in the Penrose neighborhood, according to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of N. Taylor and San Francisco Avenue. The gentleman, who had kindly offered a ride to two men he had known but slightly, reported that one of the passengers pressed an object into his back, claiming it was a gun.
Under this threat, the assailant coerced the senior into transferring an undisclosed sum of money via a cash app. After completing the illegal transaction, the two men amicably left the vehicle and departed on foot, leaving the man shaken but unharmed. This account was relayed in a statement obtained by the SLMPD.
The SLMPD's District 6 officers are diligently pursuing leads in the ongoing investigation of the robbery. The authorities have issued a call to action for anyone who might hold information on the crime, encouraging them to contact the North Patrol Division Station at 314-444-0001. They have particularly urged reaching out to a District 6 detective.
In addition to reaching out directly to the police, witnesses or those with information have the option of remaining anonymous while potentially reaping a reward for their assistance. The local CrimeStoppers service provides a confidential hotline, available at 866-371-TIPS (8477), where informants can safely share what they know without fear of revealing their identity, as noted by the SLMPD's announcement.
