
A 78-year-old man was struck and fatally injured by a vehicle at the corner of Rose Street and Josephine Street in Berkeley yesterday morning. According to the City of Berkeley's official report, the collision occurred at 5:31 pm when the pedestrian was crossing Rose Street and an eastbound car struck him.
The Berkeley Police Department responded quickly to the tragic incident, and the victim was promptly transported to Highland Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 79-year-old Berkeley woman, has been cooperating with authorities in the investigation helmed by the Department's Fatal Accident Investigation Team.
In the aftermath of the collision, the intersection would have been cordoned off to facilitate the investigation, with law enforcement officials piecing together the events that led up to the fatal moment. No charges have been filed as the inquiry into the specifics of the crash is still ongoing. The identity of the deceased, pending family notification, has not been released to the public.
