Authorities have captured John Pownall, a 57-year-old inmate who escaped from Exeter Hospital on Wednesday morning. Pownall had been ordered to remain at the hospital until he was fit to return to Rockingham County Jail. He was assisted in the escape by 36-year-old Ashley Gustafson. The two fled the scene in a white KIA sedan with a New Hampshire license plate, as reported by Boston 25 News.
Police said Pownall cut off his ankle monitor in a CVS parking lot in Stratham, New Hampshire. While details of their capture are limited, the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that local police found Pownall and Gustafson near Dover, New Hampshire, ending their time on the run, as stated by WHDH.
The chase involving Pownall and Gustafson led to a focused search in the area, with arrest warrants issued for their capture. According to WHDH, both individuals were apprehended without incident.
