Following an investigation into horrifying allegations of child abuse, a former county commissioner and her husband were placed under arrest in Gordon County, Georgia. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced yesterday, that former County Commissioner Rebecca Hood, 50, and her husband, Scott Hood, 56, both from Calhoun, were charged with cruelty to children.
The GBI took action after being called in by the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office back in January 2021 to look into the allegations. The couple was subsequently booked into the Gordon County Jail. It was in the weave of county politics and familial privacy where the Hoods were alleged to have committed heinous acts against their adopted children, an abuse that stands in stark contrast to the trust and responsibility Rebecca Hood shouldered as an elected official.
The investigation into the nature and extent of the children’s experiences is not only continuing—it is a clarion call to the community to step forward with any information that might further elucidate the couple’s actions. As the GBI remarked in their press release, "This investigation is active and ongoing."
