A fire broke out early Tuesday morning in the French Quarter at 720 Bourbon Street. The fire was reported at 2:44 a.m., and crews were quickly sent to the scene, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
The New Orleans Fire Department responded within five minutes to a fire in a historic wood-framed building. Firefighters discovered the fire was between the second and third floors and had spread to the attic. By 3:02 a.m., a second alarm was called for additional resources. The fire's difficulty to access and the fatigue of initial responders led to a third alarm at 4:04 a.m., bringing in more personnel.
The New Orleans Fire Department played a key role in containing the fire to its building of origin. Entergy Electric helped by cutting off the power supply to the area, which was important for safety. A total of 52 fire personnel and 20 units were involved in the response. One firefighter sustained a hand injury but was treated at the scene and continued working. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, and a fire watch remains in place as a precaution.
