
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has made arrests in a fatal shooting that left one teenager dead and several other individuals injured in Elbert County. As reported on the Georgia Bureau of Investigation official website, the incident, which took place on Evergreen Drive in Elberton, occurred at a homecoming dance after-party for Elbert County High School students just before midnight on October 12. In the aftermath of the violence, a 15-year-old was tragically killed.
Among those arrested is Jarquavious Scott, 18, charged with murder and several counts of both aggravated assault and battery, and also implicated under the Georgia Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act; Scott's arrest took place on October 17, alongside four others from Anderson, South Carolina: Destanne Mathis, 20, Aanidras Parks, 18, Jerimiyah Hughes, 19, and Desmond Latimer, 18, all face similar grave charges connecting them to the crime and gang-related activities, with their arrests spanning from Monday to Wednesday last week. They have been booked into Elbert County Jail while the investigation continues.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has called on the community to aid their ongoing investigation by reaching out with any information that could be pertinent to the case. As the investigation continues, findings will be submitted to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for prosecution.
