Drivers in Gilbert should prepare to adjust their schedules as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) embarks on roadwork that will bring multiple closures along Loop 202 (Santan Freeway). Noted on the town's official website, motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel due to the Loop 101 to Val Vista Drive widening project this weekend.

Significant closures will impact eastbound traffic on Loop 202 between McQueen and Cooper roads, starting at midnight until noon on Saturday, November 16. Concurrently, the westbound high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane from Cooper to McQueen roads will also be shut down. ADOT recommends that to possibly avoid delays, motorists should consider taking alternate routes such as Pecos or Germann roads.

Furthermore, on Sunday, November 17, the westbound side of Loop 202 between Cooper and McQueen roads will experience a similar closure from midnight to noon. The eastbound HOV lane in the same stretch will also close, alongside the westbound on-ramps at Lindsay Road, Frontage Road, and Val Vista Drive. ADOT suggests the same detour options as the previous day's closures to navigate around the construction.

Additionally, there will be nightly closures at northbound Arizona Avenue at Loop 202, starting at 9 p.m. and ending at 5 a.m., beginning Tuesday, Nov. 12, and concluding on the morning of Friday, Nov. 15. All left turns at the junction of Arizona Avenue and Loop 202 will be prohibited during these times. Southbound Arizona Avenue will also see closure at Loop 202 from 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, to 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15. Detours include taking either Germann or Pecos roads to reach McQueen or Alma School roads for those needing to access Arizona Avenue north or south of the closure.

Post these immediate closures, Arizona Avenue will be restricted to one lane heading each direction at Loop 202 for several months. Drivers are reminded that speed limits have been reduced to 55 miles per hour in work zones for everyone's safety. Motorists are cautioned to slow down, stay alert, and be prepared to merge when approaching and traveling through the affected areas.
